About
Who We Are
Refresh Austin is a community-run group, coordinated by a small cadre of dedicated members. Meeting topics, locations and dates are chosen by the group, and all are encouraged to interact online and in person.
Some History
Refresh Austin was founded in February 2006 by Justin Perkins, shortly after Garett Dimon published Refresh Your City, encouraging Web professionals everywhere to start a Refresh group in their cities. Upon learning of the new group, the active members of the Web Standards meetup decided to join Refresh Austin and merge the efforts of the two groups. With the lead-up to SXSW Interactive 2006, many cities across the United States and a few in the United Kingdom started their own Refresh groups. To help connect the various cities, Refreshing Cities was created.Having grown considerably in a short period, several members stepped up to help Justin coordinate the group.
Recovering from Inactivity
Participation in Refresh Austin rose and fall several times, descending to its lowest point in the winter of 2006 when monthly meetings were no longer scheduled. Thankfully SXSW Interactive 2007 re-energized a core group of members, including Alex Jones, Grant Hutchins, Pat Ramsey, Leesa Levesque, Andrew Dupont and Ryan Joy, who focused their energies, leading to a resurgence of the group.
